Detox, Defense, and Performance: Glutathione Explained

International Chiropractors Association Season 1 Episode 31

In this episode of the ICA Sports and Fitness Science Council Chiro Cast Podcast, the host continues the conversation about supplements with Alan Ogden. They delve into the importance of glutathione, a master detoxification molecule, which began playing a crucial role in cellular respiration and communication billions of years ago. The discussion covers how glutathione supports detoxification, immune function, and inflammation reduction. The podcast also highlights a specific product called Longevity, which aims to optimize intracellular glutathione production. They also touch on how glutathione can enhance athletic performance, particularly for older athletes. Stay tuned for upcoming episodes that will discuss gut health.

hi, and welcome to another episode of the ICA Sports and Fitness Science Council, Chiro Cast Podcast. I'm trying to come up with a longer name. I haven't got there yet. Those of you that weren't with us last time, we did a podcast here on supplements. So we're working with Alan Ogden here. He's gonna give us the insight information on a couple products that. The ICA Sports and Science Fitness Council uses, likes and endorses, and we're standing behind, but I didn't want to try to explain to this stuff to you myself. I wanted to get it straight from the source. So we had the last podcast. If you didn't listen to the last podcast, go back and listen to that first. Come back here. This is a continuation of that one because we were having fun. I didn't want to end it. So we're gonna do a second one. We're just gonna keep going. So go back, listen to the first one, come back and join us here. We talked last time about the idea that I like to exercise. I like to get my chiropractic adjustment. I try to eat better and do things better.'cause I want to enjoy being a grapple someday, not in a hurry. Right now I got 4 teenage daughters, no hurry, but someday I wanna be there. And so they have a product here called longevity. Now Alan, you want to tell people why I'm taking longevity? people why I'm taking longevity. This is a, let's go back if we can in our imagination. Go back to 3.6 billion years ago when there was just single cell organisms on the planet and. They could use anything at hand for respiration. So it didn't matter if it was a sulfur molecule or methane, because they were a single entity unit. They didn't need anything from anybody else. They weren't talking to each other, they weren't communicating. And I. Oxygen was not abundant in the atmosphere. So somewhere around 3.1 billion years ago, appeared and with that photosynthesis, so we all know the result of photosynthesis is the creation of oxygen. And so very soon the atmosphere was full of this new molecule called oxygen. more efficient for respiration, but the cells didn't really have any way to communicate and they couldn't use oxygen because oxygen, as we know, can be very damaging, reactive oxygen species. We also, we often hear that term, or we hear the term free and we're talking about a molecule that isn't neutralized in her body and it can go and do damage. So in the, over the period of time, these three amino acids came together glycine, cystine, and glutamate. And because there was sulfur an abundance in the atmosphere they could come together. And they made a molecule called glutathione. And glutathione allowed for cells now to use oxygen for respiration, which was much more efficient. Not only could they use oxygen for respiration. Because they were using a common ingredient for respiration, they could begin to communicate with one another. they needed a way to remember how these molecules had come together and literally. This is the start of human genetics. This is where the human genetic code started, was remembering how glutathione came together. Once glutathione was available, molecules could accumulate and we could see organisms appearing. And now I have a saying, healthy cell, healthy organ, healthy organisms. And it all starts with glutathione. So glutathione is the master. Detoxification first. So remember the cells getting together and communicating. They needed to detoxify. They need to get rid of these three radical molecules. They needed to cool off inside from heating. And so glutathione became the master of this detoxification. The reduction of inflammation that could be caused by reactive oxygen species. And also they formulated to become an immune system for these cells. So protection from things that would try to kill them, basically. And so glutathione became a very huge thing. Literally, it was discovered in 1888 and there was a Nobel Prize given out for it in 1931 when the Nobel Prize was given out. It was called coincident with Life. In other words, we would not have human life like we have it today if it were not for this molecule. So if you think of this molecule being the creation of human genetics, then if we wanted to keep our genetics as functioning as. With the ease that, that it had, then it would make sense to make sure we had really adequate levels of glutathione. So on the market, you'll see all, sorry, you have a question? No, this is, that's the, I've heard. Three amazing chiropractors speak on this, and you just brought up the first one. The first one was about detoxing the power of this for detox and how great it's for detoxing. And we talked about in the last video that you know. Thoughts, traumas and toxins are reason why people get subluxated. So the ability to detox is huge. Now, you kinda hit it on the second reason I heard about it. Actually, it'd be the third reason I heard to take this, but you already hit it on that one too. And about the immune system and about what it does with long-term COVID, OD. And that's been really impressive to me too. There's some really cool PubMed articles about how it binds to and retards it so your white blood cells and you're strong immune system can overcome it. Which, you know, as chiropractors are always about boosting everything else we can. And that may or may not include the immune system. I don't think I'm allowed to say it includes the immune system, so I'm not saying that. Yes. But so sorry to interject there, but there's one more cool one now. I'll wait for you to hit the third one and I'll let you keep talking though, but I just wanna interject for a minute. our immune cellular immune function. While we wouldn't talk about the immune system, we do know that we can optimize a cellular. Immune function. So it would stand to reason. If we can optimize it at the cellular level, it's going to have some impact on the body as a whole. And then the detoxification. One of the real significant advantages to glutathione is its ability to amplify minerals that ordinarily would be absorbed by fat. So lead, mercury high levels of zinc. Cadmium, these things that we are concerned about. Some of the things that people have heard recently, glyphosate. How do we get rid of that? How do we get that out of our body? We optimize glutathione. Now, the secret of this brand is this. You can go to a store, you can see bottles. They'll say glutathione on them. a liposomal glutathione that is not your glutathione. So wherever you grew up, you develop glutathione to protect you from whatever is in your environment. I grew up, I developed my glutathione to protect me from whatever's in my environment. So I can't take my glutathione and give it to you, and you can't take your glutathione and give it to me. We have to continue to make our own, and this was a huge discovery that was made at McGill University here in Canada in the late seventies, early eighties, is that we can actually stimulate. The intracellular production of glutathione. So keep in mind, glutathione is produced inside the cell. First. It's genetically controlled. There's two enzymes involved. Every cell over produces glutathione and then puts it out into the bloodstream. So we do get some protection in our bloodstream from toxins and bacteria and things that would come in and try to attack us. Very interestingly, that 50% of our glutathione is in our liver, about 20 to 20. 5% is in our lungs, about 14% in our skin, and then we actually have some extra glutathione in our eyes. And if you think about where we would be attacked from something could come in our eye. We'd want protection there. Something can come through our skin. We'd want protection there. We breathe it in, so we'd want protection there. And then certainly the things that come in through our food and go to our liver. We would want a lot of protection in our liver. And so the secret to longevity is it's a dual form. put some liposomal glutathione in there, not enough to have any kind of immunological response. It's literally to trigger the enzymatic activity. And then we've included the three amino acids. In there. So each cell then can produce its own glutathione. And that's exactly how nature designed it. That's how we designed our product, is to work with nature. And when I think of chiropractic, ultimately that's your goal too, is to work with how nature put us together and try to put us together in the same way, or keep us together in the same way so that we function as best as possible from a neurological and physical aspect. Yeah, so that's what this product is all about. We included a little bit of vitamin D in it. We include something called CFOs. Now, CFOs is a, an ingredient that contains all the essential minerals. In a trace amount that your body needs. So they work in conduct conjunction. We need these micro minerals to use as catalysts for all our enzymatic processes. So not only are we impacting detoxification, immune function and anti-inflammatory function, we're also stimulating. Other enzymatic activities. As a matter of fact, when we look at the research on this, it could be up to a thousand different processes in our bodies that is stimulated by this particular formula. Yeah. Last year at Palmer Homecoming we learned that glutathione has a powerful effect on fast twitch muscle fibers and males over the age of 40. So when testosterone levels go down, the fast twitch muscle fibers start to to. Decrease their activity. So when you see the, the old guys fall over in real slow motion at church, like, what's going on? What's that guy's reflexes? We know that this really helps stimulate the growth of those. So between getting a chiropractic adjustment and getting some exercise in, I expect to be able to continue to be running around like crazy as I'm and in my nineties and be able to do the things I want to do with this product. And the adjustments, like I said. that's absolutely true. We did a study actually in Canada where we took elite athletes. Now these were older athletes. We weren't looking for the young guys. They had to be 45 or older. And we took them. Measured their oxygen uptake measured their exercise intensity, and then we increased their glutathione. So it is genetically controlled, so you, there's no way to overproduce glutathione in your body. But what we did find in these people over the age of 45 is an 11 to 14% increase in strength and endurance and intensity. It is a clinically proven fact that optimizing glutathione is beneficial. In your sport for instance that kind of incre 10% increase in something could be the difference between, 20 20th place and being on the podium. So it is a significant thing, right? On AAA hockey, that's the team chiropractor that's really close to being black hawks. They'll take every little edge they can get. So there you go. No, this is a fantastic product. So how do you take glutathione? You can take it any time, but remember that our body. Is very busy at night. So our brain never sleeps. It's detoxing. We need glutathione for that. so when we get up in the morning, our glutathione levels are the lowest intracellular levels of glutathione are the lowest. So the best time to take your longevity is early morning. Soon as you get up, take your two capsules. Can you take more? Yes, I take more. So once again, on high intensity. Training days, I will take extra glutathione for that little edge in performance and also for recovery because of the anti-inflammatory effect. I know we don't wanna reduce the anti-inflammatory effect too much because there's a feedback loop there with regard to human growth hormone, so on. But we don't want it to last a long time. So I use glutathione with my workouts as well. Kennedy gets his full way, as in this country. We're a little hyper inflammatory too, but Kennedy's trying to change that hopefully soon. So yeah, I agree with you. I tell people all the time, inflammation's good. Too much inflammation, not so good. and actually pre COVID, this is very interesting. Pre COVID, there was 2,500 practitioners in the United States that actually petitioned the FDA to make glutathione. Medical protocol. In other words, if you went to the doctor and you had anything going on, one of the first things that they would do is elevate your glutathione levels. So the science is there. It's very well documented. As a matter of fact, there's more science on glutathione than vitamin E, vitamin C and all the other vitamin Bs all combined. Glutathione is very well researched. I hear it more and more. Every time I go to a big conference, it comes up more and more. I hear more and more cool things than it does, and it just, it just, it's one of those things that just keeps on giving. Right. So it just keeps getting better and better. So there's a I. in our products, Mexi has an exclusive ingredient that nobody else uses, which is Lana Cery. Lana Cary, which is native to Canada. We actually, it comes from where I live very not real close to where I live about 300 miles away. But Lana, Cary and people have heard of blueberries for their antioxidant and all their other benefits. Lace berries are about 17 times stronger than blueberries. So every modus product has Lana Cery in it as well to complement any other, activity that it would have. Yeah. Awesome. Well, I wanna talk to you about another product. So I'm gonna do this to you last time. I'm gonna do it to you again. I'm gonna put you on the hook for us to sit down another day and talk about gut health, because I know gut health is crucial to the brain and everything else in the immune system. So right now, I got you on the record. Can I can I. Force you to meet with me again in another week and talk more about the gut health and maybe some solutions you have there. me. It'll be very I'm ha I'm happy to do it. Look forward to I. very much. Absolutely. We'll look forward to talking again at your convenience. Excellent. Well, all right. Well, thank you for joining us today. It's great to have somebody that, that's behind the science to understand this stuff.'cause chiropractics and art, science and philosophy, a lot of people overlooked that science part. That's my favorite part, by the way. So I'm really glad you were able to join us. So we talked some science, we had some conversations previously before this. But I have a level nerdy. I I keep off the podcast. So we keep that between us. But thanks for tuning in and joining our podcast. And if you like what you're hearing, feel free to the, like, subscribe, come back if you wanna hear about the gut health. If you subscribe, you won't miss it. So, Alan, one more time. Thank you for joining us. Really appreciate this. We're gonna have links to all this stuff too, and the ICA Science and Sports Fitness Council. If you're not a member, there's reasons to become a member. Now, if you're interested in this, we're gonna have more links on our website, so come check us out. Is gonna give us some links to add to this podcast. So feel free to look at the comments and how to learn more and, and maybe get your own samples and see what you think of these products. So thank you, Alan, you have anything to, to, No, I, we, add at the end here? and I'm looking forward to our next conversation. Thank you very much, Brant. Appreciate it. All right, well thank you everybody. We'll talk to you again later.
