Many of our Board - ICA Sports and Fitness Science Council

International Chiropractors Association Season 1 Episode 8

Meet our board.  Recently several board members got together to help you understand what this ICA sports and fitness science council is all about.

Hi, and welcome. I'm Dr. Todd McDougle. I am the chairman for the ICA Council on Fitness and Sports Health Science, and I am so excited to go ahead and announce that we have something incredible, which is a first for this council, and that would be a podcast. We've had so much joy and work that has gone into this, all because we have such passion for the sports arena and those athletes that we serve. Without further ado, let's go ahead and have our gang go ahead and announce who they are, their names, and we'll go from there. Hi, I'm Joe Amunategui, chiropractor, Hallandale Beach, Florida, been working with pro and amateur athletes all the way down to high school kids, coaching PAL sports for many years and enjoying the sports council since. 94 is a founding member as well. And hello, I'm Kevin Jackson. I'm a 1989 graduate of life chiropractic college. I'm certified upper cervical chiropractor, former Hershey bears, chiropractor of the AHL, former PGA golf. Professional chiropractor and currently a chiropractor for Little League football in my area. Also the inventor of the Jackson CCJ technique. Brant Hulsebus here at Rockford, Illinois. I've been delivering subluxation based chiropractic care to all the pro teams in my town here in Rockford and the colleges. I'm excited to be part of the council and help mentor and teach other people how to do the same thing in their town. Hello folks. I'm Dr. Peter Gratale from Teaneck, New Jersey. I'm a chiropractor and a certified strength and conditioning specialist. I specialized in sacrooccipital technique taught to me by the major himself. And I come from the bodybuilding world. I was a little kid looking at bodybuilder magazines. And then 30 years later as a chiropractor, I trained with them all. And as I was the former president. And was an integral part of Producing the Arnold Schwarzenegger Symposium on Natural Fitness and Sports Health Science for over 25 years. I'm psyched to be back and let these guys lead and I could just sit in the back and guide. It is so exciting to have this crew and of course we actually have several other people too that are involved. They're just not here this evening to go ahead and participate. I, for example, am someone who actually has participated in strength sports for many years as a handicap athlete, but then also at the same time as someone who's developed many innovative programs for strength athletes in particular. And now today I'm known as the Strongman Doc. Without further ado though, I do need to go ahead and try and address some of the things that we are and some of the things that we are not. What are we as the ICA Council on Fitness and Sports Health Science? We're an organization focused on human performance with a dedication to enhancing athlete function through measures and methods involving the chiropractic adjustment as the primary application. What we're trying to achieve actually, and these are some of our goals, There are more, obviously, but they're not limited to these, but our goal is to offer opportunities for sports minded chiropractors to have a fellowship with their colleagues for the perpetuation of chiropractic. We need to actually aid in the development of skills that focus on specific and proper adjusting methods tailored to be sports specific while reducing injury to the chiropractor doing the execution of care. Our goal is to create A unique learning environment to ensure that chiropractors can successfully engage both athlete and care team members as they share the amazing experience of positive outcomes that really become evident in achievement of the athlete's dreams combined. These three areas will aid in the formation of a deep foundation of principles matched with confidence and competency, and that's something so important within our profession. And we want to go ahead and do everything we can to create an environment So the chiropractic will actually continue and we actually would do this thing called the chiropractic adjustment Which so many of us know is so beneficial for those people in the world But even more specifically a lot of these athletes in performance And our main goal is to make sure this goes to this Adjust there you get this you bet If you're always looking for new members or guests at our podcast, if you want to be on, let us know. And you can see, we do take it seriously. Dr. Kevin's actually in his gym. And I think, Pete, didn't you say something about his leg press being incredible? He's got a rack I've never seen before. A leg rack I've never seen before. It's like a torture device. I love it. I love it. Only you would come up with a analogy of equipment like that. But no, I think I think on a serious note that we as a group want to attract as many chiropractors as possible who want to learn how to do sports chiropractic, how to be involved with their communities, their local communities and deliver quality, replicatable Chiropractic adjustments to enhance function and it's a beautiful thing. I think I think it's a natural fit chiropractic and athletics. And I think if we can appeal to female chiropractors and the mothers of the players on these teams, we are really going to make an impact. So it's not only for bodybuilders, weightlifters, rugby players, it's for our female. Chiropractors out there who also want to be participating with their little league teams in their community. I think that's going to be a very important feature going along. Absolutely agree. And we want to always incorporate the brand of the international chiropractor's association, which is actually the oldest trade association dedicated to serving its chiropractic members since its formation in 1926, and the goal initially was to protect, chiropractors and support them worldwide. Using the sports council, I think we can actually create a private public square to share ideas, ask questions, develop more mentorships and give people a place to go. If nothing else, a landing page for each chiropractor to refer themselves to for information and guidance, but also at the same time, teams can actually be referred to us. And also with that being said, the cool thing is that It can be a landing page for those teams to find people who actually have skill sets that they may want for their specific team. Whether it be little league or NHL or NFL, NBA, any of this alphabet soup gang, right? We want to be a resource for not only the chiropractic profession, but those people looking for great chiropractors to help them with their sports goals. So make sure you follow us. Make sure you like us. Make sure you subscribe to our podcast. Find us on Facebook. Go to our website. Off the ICA page you'll find us. And keep an eye on what we're up to. We're going to have a lot of fun. I look forward to taking all of you along for the ride. 100%. Don't miss it.
